Brevard Rock Gym News

We want to thank everyone who came out to the Comp on the 27th. It went off without a hitch with some great problems, some hard pulling, some ridiculous costumes, and some great prizes. We hope everyone is enjoying the fantastic fall climbing weather, but don't forget to come by the gym and try your hand on all the new problems we've got up!!

Tech Tips

Usually when we offer these little pearls of wisdom, they are in regards to some physical or technical gear aspect of climbing that can help get you over a certain hump, or give you that edge you've been seeking.
In this edition, we want to drop a little something different on you; something for your brain... According to Arno Ilgner, in his revolutionary book The Rock Warrior's Way "Poor use of attention creates fear, which can manifest itself as anything from performance anxiety to sheer terror. By using attention more purposefully we can understand how fear is created, deal with it effectively, and free ourselves to get back in touch with a far more powerful motivating force: our love of climbing. We can then create the kind of unbending intention that leads to outstanding performance."

The most important national icon of NorthCarolina is at risk. There is a very real possibility of the park falling intothe hands of a private developer with unknown intentions.

Favorite Piece of Gear (from Looking Glass Outfitters newsletter)

“When I look at purchasing a piece of gear I look for a few particular criteria. Is it lightweight? Is it multi- functional? Is it compact? Is it quality? So please understand that I analyze relentlessly before I promote any one item. It is not with faint heart that I will recommend gear, I do my research! Thus, I confidently tell you that the Snow Peak Gigapower stove is “THE STOVE.” It weighs in at 3 oz, has an auto igniter, has few working parts and is therefore virtually no maintenance; it is small, durable, and affordable. Few stoves combine the quality of a product and affordable price that the Snow Peak stove does. It is great for a one nighter, a weekend trip, or an expedition. It is a butane stove, and while the down fall to that is the waste of the containers, if you do the comparison to white gas you will find that long term butane waste is just a touch more than that of white gas waste. Bottom line, Snow Peak’s Gigapower stove is the HEAT so to speak!!” - Wayne W. - Alabaster, AL
